Pharmaceutical & chemical services
LGC offers a range of outsource and high value niche services that are fashioned to meet industry and regulatory demands. With expert knowledge in all areas of chemical measurement and in materials science, LGC has particular strengths in the areas of particle characterisation and the detection of trace components (e.g. impurities, extractables and leachables, foreign particulates) within intermediates and finished forms. With a quality system and accreditation that fully meet the demands of industry and regulators, LGC provides added value through an in-depth experience in method development and validation and by providing expert opinion and advice.
Forensic Science Services
LGC Forensics is the largest independent forensic science service provider in the UK with two large facilities in the North West from where our comprehensive range of forensic expertise and skills can be deployed. This includes automated DNA analysis and superior DNA testing techniques handling minute traces, drugs, toxicology and other advanced chemical analyses. Apart from fielding crime scene forensics scientists, firearms and gunshot residue analysis play an important role in supporting police forces and other law enforcement agencies in fighting crime. Workplace drug and alcohol testing are also expanding areas of activity in both the public and private sectors and helping to solve E-Crime (involving computers and mobile phones) has developed dramatically in recent years.
BSE testing
LGC has been testing bovine brain-stem samples for BSE since November 2001. With three dedicated laboratories, in Runcorn, Teddington and Edinburgh, LGC has a combined annual routine capacity of 1.25 million tests, or 5000 tests daily. Samples received each evening from abattoirs throughout the country are tested overnight with results reported via a secure website by 5 am the following morning.
